Syndicate Commonwealth Games


The Teams are getting ready for the Senior Syndicate Commonwealth games.  They completed their flags, banner and masco and also a logo for the 5 sports they will be competing in: sack race, high jump, egg and spoon, sponge throw and the three legged race. 


Jamaica and their mascot Scooby the Snake. 

Rwanda and their mascot Flappy Flapster the Grey-throated Flycatcher.

Namibia and Tackle the Onyx.

Brunei and their mascot , Buster Ruby the Underdog. 

Cameroon and Allie the Elephant.

Speech Topics

The topics are in for the Whakatu Schools Speech Competition.
They need to be 3-5 minutes in length.

  • What is a hero and can anyone be one?
  • Maori Language Rocks!
  • It's Not Easy Being Me.
  • Vote for Me!
  • The Average New Zealand Kid is...
So get thinking about them. We'll be starting them in Week 3 in class.

Purposes

·      To foster speaking skills in each school
·      To provide opportunities for students to hear and compete against students from other schools
·      To develop greater cluster school contact

Age Group:

Year 5 / 6 (only).     Two finalists from each school (– either Y5 or 6)

Names of finalists to Stoke School by 5th September for inclusion in Finals Competition programme brochure. Please also provide a brief biography for each finalist. 

Judges

TBC.

Judging
  • Criteria and scoring sheet is the Whakatu Cluster Speech Assessment
  • This will be shared with students when writing the speeches.
  • Speeches are intended for an audience of children.
  • Children are welcome to use props or visual aids but remember these will not have a significant bearing on marks awarded by the judges.
  • The Nayland College cup for Public Speaking will be awarded to the winning student.

Syndicate Games, Games Mascots and Flags

This Friday Room 1 is taking part in the Syndicate games. Teams of 6 will represent a country of the commonwealth. Each team will create a giant flag and a mascot for the country.
