Matariki Wow Week

This week Nayland Primary Celebrates Matariki, the Maori celestial New Year.

In Room One we will be making taonga puoro (traditional instruments) at the museum and then having a visit from Brian Flintoff a local toanga puoro maker on Tuesday afternoon. We will also be creating soundscapes with the instruments to go with our written legends (legend links here and here),  assembling manu tukutuku (kites) and working with harakeke to make the matariki stars.
We'll also be trying to squeeze in some maths and reading, and play some ki o rahi.
A busy week for Room 1.  Feel free to come and join us!!! Check out the proposed timetable on the blog tab.
