War- by Te Matai

Run I say, so you can catch your prey.
Run like the wind, go over the top now or be a coward and get shot by sergeant.
I survived and we lost 1000s of men.
It still shocks me today, to know what went on that day.
I lost many friends thinking I’m next.
A bullet pounded my head, I survived because of my amazing helmet sergeant had given to me.
I put his gun over his back I took his bayonet because I lost mine.
I carried him over no mans land.
I lost many great friends and I wonder what would the world be like if discrimination never happened.
We were a tough country and still are today.
